Place du Martroi

Since 1855, the equestrian statue of Joan of Arc has stood, a monumental bronze by Denis Foyatier.
The bas-reliefs on the base represent the various scenes of Joan's life from the voices of Domremy to the stake in Rouen.
The plinth was damaged during the fighting at the Liberation in 1944. The bas-reliefs were removed in 1987 and replaced by casts. The originals are kept in the Musée des Beaux-Arts.

Sainte-Croix Cathedral

600 years to build, but in the end a real architectural jewel! Dating from the 13th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, Orléans Cathedral bears the imprint of the various royal successions, and in particular the elegance of classicism, which makes it both architecturally and artistically original.
One of the five largest Gothic cathedrals in France (140m long, 53m wide with a spire rising to 106m), Sainte-Croix was begun in 1287 and officially inaugurated on 8 May 1829. It has a long history: Joan of Arc prayed there, Henry IV initiated its reconstruction in 1601, Louis XIV financed the transepts which pay homage to him by displaying his motto and his sun. The magnificently sculpted woodwork in the choir and the stained glass windows telling the story of Joan of Arc are among its 'treasures', as are the 11 richly endowed 13th century chapels that form its chevet.

Hotel Cabu Museum of History and Archaeology

Housed in a splendid Renaissance mansion built in 1550 for Philippe Cabu, a lawyer at the Châtelet and attributed to the architect Jacques 1er Androuet du Cerceau. The courtyard facade has three levels and is richly decorated with the three superimposed orders typical of the Henri II style. The Musée historique et archéologique de l'Orléanais was severely damaged in the bombing of June 1940. It took more than twenty years to reopen its doors to the public.

Ground floor: two temporary exhibition rooms. 1st floor: Orléans from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. 2nd floor (currently under construction): Mesopotamian, Egyptian and Greek antiquities, the Carnutes people and the Gallo-Romans in the Orléans region, the port of Orléans.
